چکیده

The purpose of this project was to create a mode of pedestrian navigation via a single head mounted vibrotactor. Our intention was to achieve accurate waypoint navigation with fewer tactors than in previous works, thereby introducing a simpler system and increasing cost effectiveness. Test results concluded that average walking speeds through our course were similar when given verbal direction and when utilizing the head mounted system.

eNav: Smartphone-based Energy Efficient Location Sensing for Low-Power Vehicular Navigation

This paper presents eNav, a smartphone-based vehicular GPS navigation system that has an energy-saving location sensing mode capable of drastically reducing navigation energy needs. Traditional navigation systems sample the phone GPS at a fixed rate (usually around 1Hz), regardless of factors such as current vehicle speed and distance from the next navigation waypoint. This practice results in ...

An architecture for outdoor wearable computers to support augmented reality and multimedia applications

This paper describes an architecture to support a hardware and software platform for research into the use of wearable computers and augmented reality in an outdoor environment. The architecture supports such devices as a GPS, compass, and head-mounted display. A prototype system was built to support novel applications by drawing graphics (such as maps, building plans, and compass bearings) on ...

Vision-based waypoint following using templates and artificial neural networks

This paper presents a learning-based vehicle control system capable of navigating autonomously. Our approach is based on image processing, road and navigable area recognition, template matching classification for navigation control, and trajectory selection based on GPS way-points. The vehicle follows a trajectory defined by GPS points avoiding obstacles using a single monocular camera and main...
